Innovation for All Residents

Smart Columbus, and the collective innovation and leadership from partners across the region, has raised the profile and brand of the Columbus Region in an unprecedented way. The Smart Columbus Experience Center that opened in 2018 has welcomed over 30,000 visitors from over 80 cities and 10 countries. Our community has quickly become known globally as America's Smart City, which has generated over 100 million media impressions of our community.

Autonomous Vehicle Pilots

Smart Circuit

16,062 Columbus residents and visitors took a ride aboard the Smart Circuit, Ohio’s first self-driving shuttle. Discover some of the learnings from this groundbreaking program.

Linden Shuttle

Columbus is piloting the Linden LEAP, the first daily operational self-driving shuttle in a residential neighborhood.The LEAP was created to help Linden residents get to and from important destinations where there aren’t any bus stops.

Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC)

In July 2019, TRC opened the SMARTCenter, the largest independent vehicle test facility in the U.S., located in East Liberty, Ohio.

The Ohio State University Center for Automotive Research (OSU CAR):

In the past year, CAR, the preeminent research center in sustainable and safe mobility in the U.S. and an interdisciplinary research center in OSU’s College of Engineering, has supported more than 10 companies with automotive research.

Hyperloop Midwest Connection Initiative

Together the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, the Columbus Partnership and numerous partners, proposed a route would link the three cities through construction of a Hyperloop system.

Tech Community Response to Covid-19

Can’t Stop Columbus

In March 2020, the business and tech community created a virtual hackathon in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. With more than 1,000 volunteers and 40 organizations lending talent, time and resources, the movement has launched nearly 20 projects providing connections to food, health, safety and goodwill to the Columbus community.
